ADULT DISCIPLESHIP
One of our core values at Foothills is what we call JESUS-SHAPED DISCIPLESHIP. A disciple of Jesus is simply someone who learns from Him to live like Him. We seek to make disciples who imitate the 3-dimensional life of Jesus who lived UP with the Father, IN with other disciples, and OUT on mission to unbelievers. We are focused on making and growing disciples who live Jesus-shaped lives together and who go on mission together to make disciples. Here's how...
Most people begin the journey with us by attending our Sunday morning worship gathering, joining us for special events, and/or participating in the various Bible studies we offer. It is in these environments that they will hear a consistent call to be disciples (John 12:26) who make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). Should they choose to accept the call, they are then invited to join a Huddle.
The goal of Huddle is for participants to develop their ability to hear God, develop action plans for following Him, and follow through on these plans. People who are huddled not only grow as disciples but receive help in discerning to whom God is calling them to make disciples (family, other Christians, or non-Christian People of Peace - Luke 10:1-12). They are then encouraged to begin consistently praying for these people and identifying how God is leading them to provide spiritual influence in their lives.
As people are huddled, if they sense God calling them to primarily seek to make disciples within their family, then they are encouraged to consistently pray for their family members and identify how God is leading them to provide spiritual influence in their lives. If they're parents, then they are also encouraged to seek out parent mentors who will offer them support and guidance. They will also be encouraged to have their children participate in our My Message ministry (Kids Church) and/or our youth group.
As people are huddled, if they sense God calling them to primarily seek to build-up disciples who are already Christians, then they are encouraged to either invite them to join a Huddle (that they lead or co-lead) OR serve in an already established ministry within the church or outside the church where they can help other Christians grow in following Jesus. They remain in their original Huddle for encouragement, continued personal growth, and for prayer for their on-going disciple-making efforts.
As people are huddled, if they sense God calling them to primarily seek to make disciples of their People of Peace who are not Christians, then they will be challenged to consistently pray for them. They will also be coached on how to identify their Gospel stories and encouraged to seek opportunities to share them often. As the Lord moves and causes their unbelieving friends to respond positively to their Gospel stories, they will be supported in starting a new-believers Huddle using the Discovery Bible Study method.
